First Signs of People!

Yesterday was a good day.  The rain had stopped so I was more willing to go outside.  (My kids are part duck and like going outside anytime...)  Our family took a walk together after breakfast and it was blissful.  Cool, crisp, clean air.  Spring peeking through with bits of green and purple everywhere.  The sound of the creek in the background.  This was all I hoped Mississippi to be!

In the afternoon, the homeowners came by to answer some of our questions and have us sign a contract.  They are sweet people- and our first contact with people in about 3 days.

After that, we loaded up in the Transit for our first drive "into town."
Iuka is about 15 minutes away.  There's the road that you can drive fast on, but is out of the way.
And then there's the road that is a straight shot, but is slower because it is all "residential"
How do I describe that road exactly?  It's narrow, with lots of trees and grass on both sides and then the occasional house.

Some of the houses are large and lovely.  Some look like they caught on fire a year ago and no one bothered to fix it or tear it down.  I'll try to take some pics of all that for you soon.

Once we were in town, I went to Walmart to pick up some essentials.  It was eerily quiet in there.  Unfortunately, some of the essentials were sold out (like flour and sugar) So then we headed to the Piggly Wiggy.  They had the rest of what we needed.  No toilet paper at either store, in case you were wondering.  We are not in dire straights for that yet, but I do look for it wherever we go.

The Piggly Wiggly has an Ace Hardware inside it, with no real clear dividing line.  So I was on the aisle with cereal, then I turn the next one and there were painting drop clothes and screws.  Kinda odd...

One pleasant surprise, I had pushed my cart around the store and filled it up.  Then at the checkout, the cashier unloaded it for me.  Then a young man was bagging the groceries, but not putting them back in the cart.  Because he carried them out for me.  I don't know if that is typical Piggly Wiggly service, but the man was chatty, and it was nice to have some conversation with the locals.  He noticed our Arizona license plate right away.

Here's a picture of a car we saw in the parking lot.  Ross was very excited and insisted I hurry and take pictures of it :)

P.S. As we were driving down our street, our phones started going berserk.  Apparently, we have cell service just up the road. So you may get an occasional text from me while we are out.  Or a phone call from the "intersection" down the path.
