The home we will be renting has a creek that runs through the back yard. I am super excited about it! But a few friends have mentioned that creeks in Mississippi mean that snakes are around. At first I was all brave about it, until I looked up what kinds of snakes live in Mississippi...
Yikes! These things are terrifying.
So then my heart starts to panic.
What if the kids encounter one?
What if a snake somehow gets in the house?
What if one of us gets bit?
And the ridiculous thoughts go on....
Until, ever-so-graciously, the Holy Spirit reminds me of truth.
The Lord will be with us wherever we go.
He is sovereign over every single one of his creatures.
There is not one serpent one earth that is not subject to Him.
He works all things (even scary encounters and harmful situations) together for our good.
And then I remember the picture in Isaiah 11- where the prophet is explaining just how far-reaching the peace of Christ will be in the new heavens and the new earth.
"The infant will play near the cobra's den and the young child will put its hand into the viper's nest."
While the thought of a snake anywhere near my baby Ezra is terrifying now, once Christ appears, it won't be. And that same Savior will watch over each of us, every day, until then.
P.S. Please pray for both our safety and our peace of mind- now! :)

You've been all over Arizona for thirty-three years. How many rattlesnakes have you seen? Other than the occasional Randy Johnson and Craig Counsell, not many, right? I've seen one in AZ and one in CO... since 1977!
ReplyDeleteTrue. But those places are way more civilized than where we will be :) But I'm all for not seeing a single one while we are gone!
