Visit with GG and Grandpa Phil

Ross' parents have had a trip planned to come out and see us for a couple of months.  When we found out that we would be leaving early, we were grateful that we would still get to see them.  They are just beginning a month-long trip.  It would be a bummer to have to miss a visit and then be in Phoenix for a month without them!  We certainly had a nice visit- but I wish I didn't have to spend as much of it packing...

They arrived Wednesday afternoon and there was much shouting, jumping and overall rejoicing.  Titus declared that he was going to be "Grandpa Phil's shadow" and he basically was.

Thursday, we all drove to Corinth.  They dropped Ezra and I off at the pediatrician for a well-check and Ross took the kids to play at a park and to see the historic homes downtown.  They then picked us up again (how nice of them!) and we had lunch at Borroums' Drug Store.  They have the yummiest hamburgers!  That evening, we drove into JP Coleman State Park and showed them the lake.  The middle three children waded into the water.  We've never let them do that from this shoreline before, but what-the-heck, it was the last chance they'd have in Pickwick Lake.

Friday was a rainy day so we spent much of it packing.  But we were able to introduce Phil and Geneva to our neighbor Judy, who drove in just to see us one last time before our trip home.  We had a nice visit on her patio and she even gave Caleb an impromptu haircut!

Saturday involved more packing in the morning but all fun in the afternoon to evening.  Ross and Caleb took P&G on a tour of Iuka after dropping off the 70 library books (!!) we had borrowed.  They then magically ended up at Sonic :)  I was perturbed when Caleb walked in the house rudely slurping from a straw, but promptly forgave him when he said they had brought slushes home for everyone :)

Around 5pm, we drove to Savannah, TN to show them more historic houses and to visit a park that we had sadly missed during quarantine.  It is the coolest park we have ever seen!  If ever in the area, you must visit Tennessee Street Park!  A large playground, refreshing splash pad and beautiful landscaping.

We then headed to The Outpost at Pickwick for supper.  I had gone to lunch at this restaurant back in November and was charmed by the yummy food and super cute atmosphere.  It has been on our bucket-list since we have been here but we hadn't made it there yet.  We HAD to get there this weekend... even if that meant at 8pm on a Saturday night with a half-hour wait.  The kids were very tired and very hungry but, thankfully, very calm and handled the wait well.  It certainly helped that the grounds of the restaurant had a tall tree house, working water wheel and a creek with lit floating candles.  The ambience at this place can't be beat!

We didn't get home till after 10 and put the kids straight into bed... we had to get up this morning for church and to sadly say goodbye to GG and Phil.  Caleb was cute saying goodbye to teary-eyed GG, "If we can be apart for five months, we can do another three weeks, GG!"

Hopefully those three weeks go by fast.

  1. Would have loved to see Savannah again, all I really saw of it was the WalMart parking lot. Glad you got to get burgers in Corinth, that place is a gem! Do they let people inside now or do you still order from the sidewalk? Happy the kids got to visit with P&G before you come home, would have been awful if plans had fallen through.
