Only had a four hour drive today- all across Missouri. Lovely green trees the whole way- with some interesting rock formations on occasion. The drive felt easy after the past two days.
Our evening in St Louis was more complicated, though. And that has caused me to realize the key to a successful road trip. (Successful meaning no one dies and people mostly enjoy themselves)
That key is patience.
Patience when Mom misreads the map and we end up in Illinois instead of at the Arch.
Patience when Engineer Dad is still really interested in the Arch Museum and you feel really hungry.
Patience when the two-year-old loses it in the drive thru and won't stop screaming.
Patience when Mom runs in to Walmart for a few groceries and suddenly 20 minutes have passed
Patience when the grocery bag busts open and grape tomatoes bounce all over the hotel floor
You get the picture.
Our day has not been perfect, but it has been good. This is the day that the Lord has made. I will rejoice and be glad in it. 🙂
Still like each other = successful trip
